Frequently Asked Questions
01
How much does it cost?
While I have a general price range, the nature of tailored services means that the exact cost per session varies according to individual needs and duration of treatment. I do my best to keep things as affordable as possible for you while honoring the complex and nuanced work of the profession. This is one of the many reasons I offer the FREE 30-minute consultation: so that I can get a better understanding of what you need and whether I can help.
02
I think we have friends in common- how do I know you'll maintain confidentiality?
I take your privacy very seriously. I adhere to strict, United States' HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines which are designed to protect the privacy and security of individuals' health information. For psychotherapy, these guidelines ensure that client information is handled confidentially and securely. At the beginning of our work together, I'll provide all the paperwork, including the informed consent agreement, which includes the explanation of client rights, confidentiality and various other aspects of privacy protection. Trust that your sessions are confidential and judgment-free.
03
How do I book?
As my availability can change from day to day, the best way to schedule the first available time slot would be to contact me directly. I'll get back to you in less than 24 hours.
04
Do you take insurance?
While I don't work with insurance in my individual practice, the group that I work with accepts some insurance programs. I can put you in contact with them for you to book with me and they can take care of insurance billing for you if that's an option.

What approaches do you use?
I am trained and experienced in offering a range of therapy approaches tailored to your specific needs.

Solution-Focused Therapies:
Solution-focused therapies in mental health counseling are approaches that emphasize finding solutions to problems rather than delving deeply into the issues themselves. These therapies are generally short-term and goal-oriented, focusing on the client's present and future rather than their past. For this treatment, I pull mainly from CBT and DBT skills and techniques. I also emphasize the client’s current strengths and resources, as well as their previous successes.
Psychotherapy:
The goal of psychotherapy is to help individuals understand and address the origins of their psychological concerns, helping them gain insight into the underlying causes of difficulties with their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Clients work through and process complex emotions and past experiences as a means of changing unhelpful or harmful behaviors and thought patterns. For this treatment, I pull mainly from humanistic, emotion-focused and somatic-experiencing therapy techniques.

I've seen so many therapist recommendations, how do I know which therapist to choose?
I know how time consuming and costly it can be to find a therapist that's a good fit which is why I offer the free initial consultation. However, even if we don’t work together, I STRONGLY encourage you to do your homework and take the time to find the person that's right for you. Here are a few tips to choosing a therapist in my view:

Green Flags:
-
Someone who is patient and willing to answer your questions before contracting services.
-
Someone who is formally educated by an accredited university, credentialed, and has specialty areas.
-
Someone who shows respect for confidentiality and demonstrates ethical behavior.
-
Someone who works with you and your needs, and is open to feedback.
-
Someone who communicates well, and who makes you feel heard and understood.

Red Flags:
-
Someone who is not willing to meet you first or answer any questions before taking your money.
-
Someone who says they can work with absolutely any age or problem, or someone who is not properly trained. Don’t be afraid to ask!
-
Someone who shows no boundaries. If you are close friends or have friends in common, it doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t work with them, just ask about how they will ensure your information remains confidential and how they will work to uphold their duty to ethics.
-
Someone who is inflexible in their approach or tries to push a certain kind of treatment, even if you don’t want it. Follow your instinct!
-
Someone who doesn’t listen or makes you feel judged about you or your circumstances.
